Quincy's Perk 1993 - 2012

Winning racehorse (surprising as he wasn't the speediest!), super hunter (with everyone other than me!) and kind uncle to the foals (he loved foals!)  He was also a huge fan of ducks, fireworks and jammy dodgers!

Chamfron Viscacha

Three year old Viscacha hacking out quietly with Rupert.

Haylage and Rugs (Already!!)

We've had three lovely autumn days, a good frost in the morning then a pleasant bright day.  Yesterday we went down to the Cowper Day sale at Kikby Stephen, over 400 horses entered, mostly black and white cobs.  We didn't watch many go round the (can't swing a cat in it, even without the addition of twenty people in it...) ring but the prices were much better than I expected.  Nothing grabbed us so we headed off for cake.  No doubt that winter is approaching fast though so we are starting to dig out rugs and pop them on, some rugs had to be carefully folded and returned to the pile as they were in use!!  The broodmares and foals also have haylage, they were pretty chuffed about that, eating for a good hour then bouncing around the bottom of the field in a happy dance.  I watched it from the banking on the stack yard, its much more cheering when you can't see the divots flying!

Maintenance with a side order of choccie biccies!!

Dick kindly came over to give Mark a hand scraping the stack yard and mending the shed roof, a job I'd looked at and declined (firmly!!)  A very good job done which of course Rose and I assisted with, from the sofa, with chocolate digestives!!!  Way too high up for me, I don't even want to watch other people tottering about in the rafters!!

Foals in furry coats!

A few photos of the foals as they rapidy lay down winter coats.  This has been a grim summer, there is no other word for it, it has rained and rained and rained.  The horses are a bit dull in their coats and we are now short of grass but sadly not of mud!  I was quietly optomistic of an indian summer but those dreams are gone, Nico has a rug on and with a forecast of serious snow, early and plenty of it he will no doubt be wearing two before that much longer.  Still snow is always so much nicer to photograph than the mud!  We seem to have acquired a buzzard (?) which would be nice if the woodeckers hadn't "vanished" at exactly the same time as it arrived...

Exmoors on the move!

A day out helping with the exmoor pony inspections and branding near Brampton in Cumbria.  In the afternoon the mares were run back out onto the fell and I got a few snaps of them on their way!
