Monday I did our local woods which are still carpeted with bluebells. Thursday I was out near Winchburgh with work so I did a few more miles along the Union canal and back along a track in the woods. Saturday we had a wander around the woods at Lennoxlove which were lovely, the highlight was seeing the fields of Cadzow White Park cattle. The cattle are the remaining fold descended from the white cattle that roamed wild in the Caledonian forests and have distinctive white coats with black muzzles, ears, feet and horn tips. There were two girls that were rather more patchy and had the cutest calves!

Yum, you saw some great fungi too! That looks like something we call Chicken of the Woods. We pick it, clean it and cook it!
You have wild cattle in those woods?
Yes, I managed to look quite knowledgeable and knew it was Chicken of the Woods because of your blog!! The tree had a bumble bee nest in it too. Cattle are now farmed but descend from an ancient breed and are pretty rare in the UK, quite a status symbol!
