Keep Moving - Week 27

Similar Sunday to last week, hacked out the boys together then had a wander around a poppy field, actually the one we were aiming for last week, spotted a roe deer and had a skylark hovering and singing above us.  Had taken the week off work so Cactus was hacked on Monday and both boys hacked on Tuesday.  On Wednesday we had a walk around Devilla forest, (hopefully) avoiding all the wee frogs (toads?) then we headed to Culross which is Scotland's best preserved 17th century town, all wee wynds and cobbled streets.  Stopped off at the Tuilysis standing stones on the way home, the largest one stands around eight foot tall and is rather imposing.

On Thursday we took both boys up to the arena, not entirely regretting my choice of booking the indoor IN JULY as the wind whipped round furiously, it wasn't warm either.  Rode Cactus first trying really hard to concentrate on straightness.  When Spider's saddle was checked last month Holly commented that she felt he was short on his near fore and that he probably had arthritis in the elbow he injured last year.  He'd felt wrong coming back from the hack on Tuesday but in his usual form he lined himself up at the mounting block and (after a snack) strode off in a lovely outline, ears pricked.  I put him in to trot and had a sudden feeling that he'd done enough, he owed me nothing and he wasn't going to say no.  We did one lap in canter and I got off him and stuffed him full of treats.  He can still go for walks but he doesn't need to be carrying my weight anymore.  On Friday we had a stroll around the Scottish Game Fair and on Saturday Cactus was very grown up with his first trip out in the trailer and a hack home!
