Spotted a cheap deal with good flight times so we headed off to Krakow for Craig's birthday. Started the week with lots of wandering around the town and a trip to the Wieliczka salt mine. The Wieliczka Salt Mine reaches a depth of 327 metres and extends via horizontal passages and chambers for over 287 kilometres. The rock salt is naturally of varying shades of grey, resembling unpolished granite rather than the white crystalline substance you would expect. The mine features an underground lake, exhibits on the history of salt mining, and a 3.5-kilometre visitors' route (less than 2 percent of the mine passages' total length) and includes statues carved from the rock salt at various times and a very impressive cathedral (that you can get married in!). We were staying in the Jewish quarter which is apparently where all the cool young things socialise now!
