Having had a few emails with a recurring theme from friends, acquaintances and to be honest utter strangers I thought it was easier just to pop a blog post on. They all go the same way... "whats the weather like with you, hows your granny and ('subtly' slipped in) what's your view on PSSM?" Ah PSSM the latest buzz in genetic testing for diseases in horses, so...
Simply we do not test for PSSM, HYPP, HERDA, GBED, JEB, CA, CSNB, or three headed fluffy foal syndrome, we breed good horses to good horses, we describe them accurately and fairly and we always want to keep in touch and find out how you are getting on. We have a stable herd, our broodmares and stallions are part of the family, not sold on and replaced every other season. If you are interested in a foal I can put you in touch with the people with its siblings and they certainly rave about them to me!!
Of course if you would prefer a horse with its genome mapped there are studs that will oblige, mind do be aware that its mum or dad may still rub their mane and tails off, been utterly unrideable or be as cuddly as a Taipan... Because this week they don't have a test for those issues!!!
