I had a stroll down to Cove Harbour today to get some fresh air. The first thing you spot after parking is another of the memorials to the 1881 "Black Friday" fishing disaster. Cove was hit hard loosing three of their four boats and eleven out of twenty one men, the series of statues have been installed along the east coast by local artist Jill Watson to commemorate the surviving widows and their children. Walking fully down the path brings you to the harbour itself, the pier houses were lived in until 1951 but now hold fishing tackle. Walk back up the path a little and a tunnel appears on your left, 183 feet long, this is the access to the beach.
