On Thursday Craig headed over to Londonderry and picked up Sula. So far she loves the car and running through the leaves.

Chamfron Outings
Rowena and Mojito have been out enjoying their showjumping, Rebecca and By Dand finished their season with a last 30km at Drumtochty getting another Best Condition award and finishing their season on a nice round 600km completed. Christine and Tizona headed to the English Man v Horse in the Quantock Hills and had a great spin round.
Aurora
Back home, according to the App we weren’t even in the green “might get a northern lights showing” area, needless to say ALL of Iceland was in a red alert!

Iceland part seven
If we’ve made one mistake planning this holiday it was booking two nights in Hofn, it doesn’t justify it, especially when visibility is extremely limited. We did have a wander around the (movie set) viking village and Stokksness Peninsula but the mighty Vestrahorn Mountain remained hidden in the clouds. We then started to retrace our steps and head back to Reykjavik, stopping at the Diamond Beach for a second time and having a boat trip on the Jokulsarlon Lagoon, then walking up to a couple of glacier terminus. A night in an aurora igloo (no chance of a sighting) followed by visit to the Perlan museum to finish up before we returned the car, learning it had already had one crash and seven windscreens in its short life! Next visit is the Westfjords in 2027.

Iceland part six
We started off at Reynisfjara beach, famous for it’s black sand, basalt columns and towering beauty, it’s also rather famous for it’s sneaker waves and fairly regular deaths, so much so they have a warning system in place, can confirm not one of the large bus tour there paid any attention to it. We then headed in the direction of Hofn, with a walk to Svartifoss waterfall (more basalt columns) - I think at this point we have reached peak waterfall! On the side of the road was two twisted girders, a monument to the remnants of the Skeidara Bridge, once the longest span in Iceland and part of the ring road it was taken out by the 1996 eruption of Vatnajokull. By then glaciers were visible and our next stop was Diamond Beach and Jokulsarlon Lagoon, photos don’t do it justice and we spent a fair while watching icebergs making their way out to sea. Lovely meal at Pakkhus including a couple of Icelandic specialities, it was so good we may return tomorrow.
