Arran - The final instalment

Dad led us on a walk up to Coire Fhionn Lochan on Thursday, a small loch nestled in the hills with crystal clear waters surrounded by white gravel beaches, the hardier members of the party (that would be dad and Innes) then managed a refreshing swim.  The closest I got to the water was in the canoe looking onto the Twelve Apostles in Catacol.  These fisherman's cottages were built to house people cleared from the land when the interior of the island was set aside for deer.  The story goes that it was thought that these former farmers would turn to fishing and each cottage has a different shaped upper window, making them recognisable from the Firth of Clyde when lit with a candle.  Apparently what actually happened was that most of them dispersed around the island as a protest against their eviction.

On Friday we headed down to Sannox beach which was gloriously warm and pretty much deserted, Murdoch relived the heady days of his youth bouncing about like a puppy and gambolling in the surf.  We continued to eat and drink well and I will have to wean myself off gin'o'clock in time for a return to work next week!
