Lady Erica Foaled...

Despite being scanned with one foal Lady Erica foaled twins this morning, the chestnut colt was dead, for the moment the filly is trying.  She is tiny, pictured here in the whippets rug, she can get up unaided but doesn't really have the strength at the moment to stand and drink.  So far she has been tubed twice and had fifteen minutes out in the sun while we straightened up their pen.  Such a shame for Erica who is a lovely mum to her foals.  Erica has looked poor for about two months now despite huge amounts of food, the colt foal looked perfect (perhaps a slightly domed head?) and was at least the same size as the filly so guess we know where the calories were going now.

While the foal was snoozing Mark had a spin round the local gallops and then Arrayan went out for a canter with Daffy... and the sun shone.  Lets see what tomorrow brings.

So sorry for the loss of the colt. Breeding can be so unfair at times, especially as you make the time, effort and expense to scan your broodmares so that this sort of incident shouldn't happen.
Run free little man and best wishes to the filly. I hope she gets stronger and is able to suckle for herself.
