Eskrigg Nature Reserve

The time of year for treading very carefully and avoiding froglets.  Lots of young squirrels about on a glorious July night.

Chamfron Cactus Jack away

Cactus has gone to his new home with Sarah and was happily grazing nose to nose with his new friends when we left.  A nice canny youngster, who has been no trouble to have back and we wish him well in the future.

Rain? Rain? We are not used to it!!

A grotty sort of day weather wise, we have become spoilt and are no longer used to it.  Despite it Kitty went very well, super sort of filly, she will make an awesome polo pony.

Today's good news is Fatima is scanned in foal due the 24th May 2015 (woohooo) however the bad news was the vet also confirmed Pampita would never get in foal (boooo hiss).

For amusement the main herd played the "magical moving herd" game tonight, because I wasn't already damp enough.  I walked clockwise round the field, I walked anti clockwise, I did a figure of eight in the middle, I checked the valley and all the gates... then they appeared exactly where I had first looked, swines!

Wildlife Camera

Badger cam is now getting renamed wildlife cam as badger footage is unfortunately slim at the moment.  While there is a temptation to hunt out a more active set I feel I am enjoying seeing just what goes on and goes past out little spot of woodland and will stick with it for the year.  This month I have a (seriously cropped) little bird feeding a cuckoo chick (?) and our badger with what I am hoping is just a small injury rather than mange.  We also an inquisitive fox, a beautiful deer and the grey tree rat leaving the area.
